Requirements to Become An Aircraft Dispatcher

An aircraft dispatcher is a licensed aviation professional who works from the ground and shares equal authority with the captain in planning and authorizing flights. Their role focuses on ensuring safety and operational efficiency, which includes preparing flight plans, calculating fuel requirements, and monitoring weather conditions and aircraft systems.
To become an aircraft dispatcher there are requirements and tests that every person has to meet and pass according to Part 65. Below is the list you will need meet and pass based on § 65.53 :
§ 65.53
- Be at least 23 years old.
- Pass the aircraft dispatcher knowledge exam (ADX Exam) and be at least over 21 years old. Although the age to become an aircraft dispatcher is 23, you are able to take this exam and hold the pass certification for up to 24 months (§ 65.55(b)).
- Be able to speak, write, read, and understand English
- Pass the required oral and practical exam
- Must be able to adequately have to explain all the topics on the Aircraft Dispatch Practical Test Standards.
- Attend a FAA approved certification school with a minimum of 200 hours
- Must go over all Part 65 Appendix A topics
- Can substitute the hours if applicant has 2 years of experience in adjacent aviation fields in the past 3 years such as pilot, meteorologist, ATC, or flight engineer. (§ 65.57, § 65.61(d))
